Most banks will order you $1000.00 worth of halves at a time, which is normally two boxes. I have a bank I buy from and a bank I return the clad coins back to so that I am not searching the same coins everytime. I also prefer halves because the ratio for finding silver seems to be higher, although I sometimes search pennies for the wheat pennies.
Its a form of treasure hunting and is very addicting! Silver coins are on the rise and this is a great way to find these silver coins at cost. As of right now U.S. silver coins have more silver content then their face value.
Older silver coins such as franklins, morgans, walking liberties and peace dollars can also be found. Not only do these silver coins have value because of the silver content, but also depending on condition, tonning and how rare or old they are they might also appeal to collectors and dealers.
The first batch of Halve dollars I searched I pulled a total of 12 silvers, the oldest being a 1949 Franlkin.
I will post my results on here and would also like to find out about your results.

Results from todays $1000.00 in halves

Well I picked up my two boxes from the bank today and waited for Leigh Anne to get home. She picked her box and I got mine. Of course she must have some type of silver x ray vision, because for the third time in a row she has outdid me on the silver coins! Are you consistently finding keepers? Are you satisfied with your metal detecting finds? For a large body of us in the metal detecting field the answer is no.
With all of the improvements in technology. It makes you wonder why. Why are the majority of us not finding what we are looking for? Why are the majority of us not making consistently good finds? Why do many of us struggle to become successful at metal detecting?
I think the answer is really quite simple and boils down to where you are metal detecting And not on what metal detector you use. Many of us seem to think, the better the metal detector the more keepers I will find. Another pitfall is laziness, opting to hunt the obvious and accessible. Detecting that same old park over and over again. Sure there probably are a few more keepers left in that old worked out park, but there is a lot better ground in your local, you can bet on it.
In order to become "successful" you have to start doing things differently. Quit wasting your time in that worked out park and start finding yourself some new and productive sites.
You will be impressed by the increased number of keepers you will find by taking some extra time locating new fresh sites to metal detect . I'm not talking about in depth research, but simple actions like asking the owner of that 100 year old house for permission to hunt. Maybe scanning through some old newspapers or even grabbing some potential sites off of an old map.
Author: DetectorX, DetectorX.com
